Moviegallery.com Parents' Guide to Family Viewing
The editors of Moviegallery.com have created this page to help you choose movies for your family.
Moviegallery.com contains a wealth of information that can help identify questionable content for
different ages and aid your decisions about which movies to buy or rent for family viewing.
You can see an example of the information found on our site by going to the Movie
Overview Page for the film Shrek.
Movie Ratings from the MPAA
Moviegallery.com lists the MPAA rating (G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17) for any film that has been rated by the
Motion Picture Association of America.
You will find the MPAA rating listed at the top of the page, just under the Synopsis of the film. Recent
theatrical releases also include a brief reason for the MPAA rating, which appears next to the rating itself.
For example, Shrek is rated PG for "Mild language and some crude humor."
Movie Reviews
Most theatrical releases and some direct-to-video titles are reviewed by Moviegallery.com's editorial staff.
These full-length reviews offer detailed descriptions and analyses which can prove helpful to parents in deciding
whether a film is appropriate for their family. In addition, reviews of specifically kid-oriented features
generally include a "Parents' Note" at the end, indicating specific content elements that may concern
parents. Here is an example from the end of Movie Gallery's Shrek review:
Parents' Note: Shrek is rated PG. Younger children may be frightened by the
dragon, some very grisly bones litter its lair; and there is one scene of Gingerbread Man torture that is played
for comic effect. There is an abundance of fart and bathroom jokes, which are relatively innocuous.
